I never thought of myself as a high strung person so at 26, when I got my first panic attack while driving to a friend's house, I definitely thought something was wrong with my health. I was living in Sacramento at the time and my insurance was based in San Diego so I had to wait months to get an appointment. I still wasn't sure that what I got was a panick attack. A few months later I was stuck in traffic in San Diego and my heart began to beat rapidly, my hands began to go numb, all I could hear was my heartbeat, I was shaking and I felt I was going to pass out and lose control of the steering wheel so I pulled over and called an ambulance only to be diagnosed with anxiety and given medication to treat it. I quit my job as a result, took medication, started yoga, moved abroad and definitely learned how to manage it better. I stopped taking medication now but I am very conscious and try to take care of my thoughts and exercise to release adrenaline.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4070167261357747024.post-26600422944875525752016-10-04T08:04:17.329-04:002016-10-04T08:04:17.329-04:00People with social anxiety disorder are so afraid ...People with social anxiety disorder are so afraid of that they will make mistakes, look bad, and be embarrassed or humiliated in front of others. Thanks for your comment & I'm s...Hey Lisa,

Thanks for your comment & I'm so glad the blog has been helpful! I'm sorry to hear anxiety is still bothering you, but I think it tends to come and go with different levels of intensity. For me, it's always in the background of my thoughts - what if I start feeling anxious here, what if I can't handle this . . .Some days/months those thoughts and feelings don't bother me and other times they're a big pain.

As much as you can, try saying yes when anxious thoughts rush in or feelings of adrenaline or strong urges to avoid start acting pushy. You'll still have anxious thoughts or feelings, but you'll start to create a parallel circuit in your brain that says yes and invites in whatever is happening in the moment. If you pair that with moving forward and not avoiding (no matter how you're feeling), anxiety loses some of it's power over you.

Take care and happy summer to you! My kids are definitely keeping me busy, but I'll be back to write again soon.

Kristin :)Anxiety Girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02564746428519705432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4070167261357747024.post-89210132087925932432015-07-17T16:17:58.605-04:002015-07-17T16:17:58.605-04:00Awesome! I read and reread every post and the comments as I found them soooo helpful. I was disappointed that there weren't any newer posts but also glad in the hopes that you were simply too busy living life to the fullest to keep up with the blog.

I am still dealing with some anxiety in my life and have popped back here to re-read some of your posts. I was so pleased to see that you have updated a couple of times in the past year which means maybe you are still keeping up on your blog a little bit. In between having a blast at the water slides and raising three kids of course!

So I just wanted to comment to say thank you for this blog and the time you have put into it over the years. I'm sorry to hear you've experienced the same kind of anxiety, but glad that my story resonated & gave you hope - you are not alone. Yes, anxiety is such a pain, and the reality is that I still deal with it regularly and have my ups & downs. But I also have a really good life, an awesome family & I work hard at "doing life" without letting anxiety run the show. Take care! I'm not sure where you live in the world, but Reid Wilson leads great weekend workshops in North Carolina & I highly recommend!
Anxiety Girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02564746428519705432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4070167261357747024.post-67896458388736275232015-03-01T09:10:44.130-05:002015-03-01T09:10:44.130-05:00I just read your FPA as part of an assignment for ...I just read your FPA as part of an assignment for my MSW class. I don't do yoga but I do work out at my gym a few times a week, drink my teas, pray, and keep up with what I eat. Doing all of that is what has helped so far but I was just curious. I appreciate your thoughts and you be blessed!Heavenly1https://www.blogger.com/profile/12464473330526129344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4070167261357747024.post-6023181597556063762015-02-03T22:39:48.944-05:002015-02-03T22:39:48.944-05:00I've never tried tranqueline so can't spea...I've never tried tranqueline so can't speak to that supplement. I've tried valerian in capsule form a few times at night just to see how my body reacts and found that I slept deeply and had more vivid dreams. I've also tried the Tazo tea which has valerian in it. Not a great taste, honestly, and I gravitate to other relaxing tea blends. Sounds like you've found some good ones!

My personal experience doing anything with the purpose of taking anxiety away or in an effort to avoid feeling the anxiety, is that it ends up making the anxiety stronger. If I drink my herbal tea and do yoga and meditate regularly as part of a healthy lifestyle, it does help overall, but not if I quick try to do yoga before an anxiety provoking situation, praying that it will work. Does that make sense?

So, if there's a supplement you want to try, I'd do your research & check with your doctor, but make sure you also keep up with your exposure work - going toward anxiety instead of avoiding- because that's the most powerful tool & you don't have to buy anything to use it.
Take care!Anxiety Girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02564746428519705432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4070167261357747024.post-43126033131847021332015-02-03T22:15:07.703-05:002015-02-03T22:15:07.703-05:00Please tell me I didn't post the same comment ...Please tell me I didn't post the same comment like 5 times. I've read info on Valerian but have never tried it because it's said to have sedative effects and I like things that coax me to sleep naturally and not just put me to sleep. Does that make sense? Since I recently started reading your blog, I find your info trustworthy and Im wondering what are your thoughts on supplements like tranquilene and have you ever tried anything like that? I would also like to know what effects you've experienced with valerian? I value your opinion and would love to hear your thoughts!Heavenly1https://www.blogger.com/profile/12464473330526129344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4070167261357747024.post-25686210414131523242015-01-27T10:46:02.090-05:002015-01-27T10:46:02.090-05:00I've tried a little of this a little of that o...I've tried a little of this a little of that over the years, but more as part of being healthy as opposed to decreasing anxiety. I do 20 min or so of yoga a few times a week, use essential oils (mostly lavender), try to meditate and at times use lemon balm & valerian usually in an herbal tea.
